Introduction to Information Systems

This course provides an introduction to information systems. Topics of interest include what exactly is an information system?, functions of information system, major business functions, types of information systems, the role of information in management problem solving, the role of Information Systems in firms competitive advantages, internet business models and E-commerce, it also deals with the factors influence the adoption of inter organizational systems, the benefits and disadvantages of the virtual office and the virtual organization, the benefits and risks of end-user computing, database management systems. The systems approach as the basic framework for solving problems of all kinds, the basics of modeling processes with data flow diagrams and use cases, what customer relationship management is and why it requires a large computer storage capability, IS security, ethical and social issues are presented and discussed in depth.
